Our violinist is a native of the Republic of Singapore, began playing the viola at the age of fifteen and has since performed extensively to much international acclaim. As an active soloist, chamber and symphonic musician, he has performed for audiences at prestigious concert venues such as the Vienna Konzerthaus in Austria, The Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Schauspielhaus in Berlin, Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, Osaka Symphony Hall in Japan, Seoul Arts Center and Esplanade Concert Hall in Singapore. As recipient of a Singapore Youth Orchestra Scholarship, our violinist studied under Lionel Tan of the T’ang Quartet before attending the prestigious Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. His principal teachers also include this act Taylor of the Eastman School and Eugene Becker of the Julliard School. He has also participated in masterclasses with John Graham, Eugene Young, James Dunham, Roberto Diaz, Paul Katz, Judith Glyde, Erika Eckert and the Takacs Quartet. At the age of nineteen, He was the sole prizewinner in the 1993 National Singapore Music Competition-Open Lower Strings Category. He was consequently awarded the Certificate of Distinction from the Singapore National Arts Council in that same year. He also represented Singapore at the Asian Youth Orchestra and the Australian National Music Camp. He served as principal violist for numerous orchestras including the Colorado Mahler Festival, Asian American Philharmonic Orchestra and the San Francisco Lyric Opera. In 2001, he was appointed to the faculty of the Boulder Arts Academy (formerly PeakArts Academy) in Boulder, Colorado. After a successful 13-year stint in the USA, our violinist has been actively involved in the local performing arts scene, contributing his expertise to various arts groups such as the Singapore Festival Orchestra, Singapore Lyric Opera as well as performing as a soloist.
